Early Morning Visitor

Keyera was sitting up in the hospital bed. Everyone had left and went home to get some rest. It was three in the morning. Wayne had came back in the room, and told Keyera what had happened with Tyesha and they prayed for her. Keyera was now holding and playing with Serenity. After Serenity was born the doctors wanted to take her to the nursery, but Keyera didn’t allow it. She had seen a lot of movies where the baby was took down there then it was a mix up, and the parents got back a different baby. She wasn’t about to let that happen, plus this was her first child and she was nervous that something bad could happen. Wayne was lying down on the little couch that was in the room. Keyera looked down at little Serenity then at Wayne.
“You really look like your daddy.” Keyera whispered to the baby. “You are going to be spoiled…. Very spoiled. We are going to do so much together. Like nails, and hair. And we’ll have so many talks. I can tell you all my secrets….. Well maybe not all, but some. And you can tell me yours.” Little Serenity looked up at Keyera in somewhat turned her face and eyes. “You aren’t going to tell mommy your secrets? Especially about them young boys.”
“Like hell!” Wayne said getting up from the couch. “Aint no little negro coming around my baby girl. I wish a nigga would.” He said sitting on the bed beside Keyera.
“Wayne you aren’t going to stop her from having a social life.”
“She’ll have one when she is……….” Wayne sat for a minute thinking of an age “Thirty. Yeah that sounds appropriate.” Serenity looked at Wayne then turned her face again.
“That’s right Mama’s baby tell him. Boy Sit!” Keyera said laughing. Wayne laughed with her. They sat there talking away until Serenity fell asleep, and then Wayne took her from Keyera. He walked her over to the little cart that the hospital provided for her to sleep in.
“You aren’t tired Key?” Wayne asked putting the baby down on her back. He didn’t get a answer from Keyera so he looked over her shoulder to see her already sleep. He walked over to the bed and pulled the cover up on her. He pulled the little cart over by the bed.
“Look at my babies sleep.” He whispered kissing each of them on the forehead. Wayne dimmed the lights in the room, and walked over to the little couch. He laid down, to sleep.
About thirty minutes later Wayne heard footsteps, and it woke him up out of his sleep. He turned around to look at the bed where Keyera was. He saw this tall guy standing and heard whispering. Wayne opened his eyes a little more and saw Keyera and this mystery guy talking looking at Serenity.
“What the fuck is going on?” he said getting up from the couch. Keyera was about to answer when the guy cut her off.
“I’m Jawuan.” Wayne looked at the guy real good.
“You the nigga that dropped her off at the doctor that day. What the fuck are you doing here?” Jawuan felt a little hostility coming from Wayne.
“I just came to see my little angel. Chill man.”
“Yeah Wayne I think you need to chill.” Keyera seconded.
“I need to chill!?!? No the hell I don’t. Jawuan or whatever the hell your name is you need to leave.” Jawuan started to walk off but Keyera stopped him.
“Waun, You don’t have to go anywhere.” She said looking at Wayne. “Chill.”
“If he doesn’t leave then I am.” Keyera rolled her eyes at him. Wayne took that as “Go Ahead”. He walked over to the corner and grabbed his converse shoes, and his jacket. Then he walked over to Serenity, and picked her up.
“Daddy will be back to see you later baby girl. Be good.” Wayne put her down, and walked over to the door. He turned around and looked at Keyera; he screwed his face up and walked out. Keyera just took a deep breath. Serenity began to cry, and scream. Jawuan walked over to the baby, and picked her up. He rocked her back and forth until she calmed down.
“Bring her to me. Looks like someone is hungry.” Jawuan walked to the bed, and put Serenity in Keyera’s arms.
“Look at you. Mommy Flow now.” Keyera laughed as she grabbed a towel from the little table beside the bed. She then put the towel over Serenity’s face as she breast fed the baby. Jawuan and her talked the rest of the night about everything they could. Having some laughs for old times’ sake.
