Quick Strike

Keyera was packing up her bags so that she could leave the hospital at 4:25pm on the dot. She had called Nae, and told her to be there on time not a minute late. Little Serenity was lying in the little cart sleeping. Keyera had found motherhood easy. The late nights & early mornings wasnt hard because she had been on the road with Wayne, and thats how his schedule was. The diapers, and clothes changed wasnt hard either. Dr. Cambell had said that Serenity was completely healthy aside from being born two months early. There was a light knock on the door, and Keyera turned around.

"Come In Nae." the person opened the door, and walked in.

"Nae, Get the pink & black bags by the door. Then get the little Pink Gucci baby bag."

"I will not." the person said. Keyera turned around and looked at Nicki.

"Oh My God. Nicki!" Keyera somewhat screamed.

"Hey Boo!" Nicki looked over to the little baby sleeping soundly."Aww, she's a precious little lady bug." She said walking over to the cart. Nicki touched Serenity's little hand.

"You can pick her up if you want HB."

"As many times as we have kicked it Key. You can call me Nicki too"

"What about Onika, Onika?"

"No, Not my Gov." Nicki said picking up the baby. Serenity opened her little chesnut brown eyes looking up at Nicki.

"You are a cutie pie. And between me and you..." Nicki leaned toward the baby's ear "You look NOTHING like you daddy. Which is a good thing." Keyera laughed putting more clothes in the bag. Nicki rocked Serenity back and forth until she feel asleep. It was her time to talk to Keyera.

"Umm, Keyera we need to talk."

"Yes HB?"

"Gudda called me, and told me that something happened between you and Wayne. Something about you leaving him."

"Yes, that's true."

"So what caused you break up?"

"Well Nic, he just kept comparing me to his ex's, and what they done to him. We have been arguing everyday for the past weeks. I don’t understand why he can’t move past them. Then last night, my cousin came out here to see me. He stays in Fillmore, California so he came around three in the morning. Wayne got all mad and puffed up. Then he just left out and didn’t call or comeback until a couple of hours ago. He was gone for a good ten hours. Then Tez called me and told me that he was out shopping and getting drunk. His daughter was just born and he didn’t even stay. So when he got back here he was talking out the side of his neck, and shit. I have a daughter and she means the world to me already. I refuse to put her through arguments and stuff. That’s not fair to her. So I told him that I’m moving back to my apartment and we are done. I didn’t say that I would keep Serenity from him. He can see her when he wants.”
“Did he know that the guy was you cousin?”
“He didn’t give me time enough to explain he just walked out. I told him to chill. I told him when he came back. Then he thought I was cheating before I got to tell him that.”
“Well, you know how stubborn Wayne is. I’m not going to tell you what to do, but maybe you two need to have a talk.”
“Nicki it’s no talking to that man. He his head sprung……Pauz…. I give up with him. I didn’t want us to break up and be a single mother but that’s what happens I guess.”
“Well Keyera you have a beautiful baby girl, an if you ever need help….. I’m here and of course Wayne.”
“Thanks HB…. I mean Nicki.” Nicki reached and hugged Keyera. Then she kissed little Serenity and put her back in her little temporary bed.
“You a little boss lady baby girl.” Nicki said to the baby. She turned to Keyera. “Let me go see him. Stay strong barb and I’m the godmother. ”
“I will, and Of course.” They hugged one more time and then Nicki left the room. Keyera looked over to the at Serenity.
“I gotchu, Mama’s baby.”

Safaree

Safaree had been back in New York for three days now and he was doing okay. He missed Nicki but he didn’t want to go back just yet. He knew that he needed his space from her. They had been texting lately here and there but nothing to serious. He hadn’t been mopping around either. He and Nicki had a understanding that no matter what they would keep a strong bond and it wouldn’t be broken. So neither of them was all depressed and sad. They weren’t crying all the time or anything. Safaree had gotten hungry, and his mother said she wasn’t cooking anything or better yet she said…
“Boy, I just cooked a big dinner for tomorrow being Sunday. You crazier than a bat bug if you think I’m going in that hot kitchen to cook for you.” Safaree chuckled and got out of his car. He went into White Castle to get a burger. He walked up to the counter to put in his order.
“Hey Stranger.” A soft voice said from behind him. Safaree turned around and looked at Chrissy. He rolled his eyes at her. She had a bandage over her eye and a cast on her arm. She had about three stitches on her bottom lip.
“Could you tell them to make my order quick?”
“Sure Sir.” The little teenage girl said.
“Thank you.” Safaree said moving to the side so that they other people could tell their order.
“The least you could do is talk to me Safaree, after your girl jumped on me for telling the truth.”
“Chrissy, Get out of my damn face.”
“No, it’s not that easy Safaree.”
“It is that easy. You lost the right to even look at me, to even be in the same room as me. To even breath the same air as me. You disrespected me a lot and I don’t want to even hear your manly ass voice. So get you Nappy Headed Ass out of my face.” Safaree said with more bass in his voice.
“So she got you sprung like that. That hoe. She aint shit Safaree. Stop being a pussy behind her.”
Safaree saw a hand come out of nowhere, punching Chrissy in the face. He looked to where the fist came from, and saw Thembi.
“Get your food, and leave here.” She said.
“Thanks Them.” Safaree said hugging her. “I always knew you was a coon on the inside.”
“Yeah boy and tell Nicki I said to call me. I miss my bestie.”
“I will.” Safaree grabbed his food bag and was out the door. He stopped walking and laughed a little. That was one of the most classic punches in the book. He continued walking to the car and got in. He reached in his bag and pulled out his cheeseburger. He opened the wrapper and bit into it. He looked back at the building and busted out in a loud laugh. Safaree sped off down the street going back to his mom’s house.
